American Beauty

P1000439_copy_2This "little beauty" is one of my most prized possessions. It is an American Beauty quilt that my mom made for me for Christmas the year before last. Believe it or not, these are the colors I have in my home. I know you are SHOCKED! Most people think that I only decorate in PINK and GREEN and everything BRIGHT. Not true. You see I live "vicariously" through my store and pattern company! My husband likes dark colors and dark woodwork, so that's what we have at home. However, our bedroom is red toile. You're probably thinking; "ok, that's more information than I need to know"! In case you don't already know this about me, I LOVE toile prints of every color and pattern. It's sort of like lipgloss, you can't have too much of it!

You may recognize this pretty pink and white Amarylis, my oldest daughter Olivia gave it to me for Christmas. It was my first attempt at growing one and I have to say, it was extremely rewarding. And it came at the perfect time when it was cold and wintry outside.

Here is a closer look at the little sign. I found this on a recent shopping trip in Shipshewana, IN and bought it for my husband's birthday. He loved it.

Hope your week was a good one. I had one of those days yesterday, that changes your life and your families life forever. Don't mean to be mysterious, just need a little time before I can write about it. Please keep my family in your prayers.

Spring is in the air.....

Ok, not yet, but the weatherman is predicting 50 and rain midweek. So, hopefully we'll get rid of most of the dirty snow that's still "sittin' around".  Although it's not very springlike outside yet, it is bright, happy and "spring like" at the store. We are thinking like "spring" even if the thermometer doesn't go up much. That is the essence of faith right? To believe that spring is just around the corner even when we don't see it yet. I am a true optimist! The glass is always half-full! So here is a little bit of "happy spring". The new Cherry Baby fabric that was so beautifully designed by Holly Holderman of LakeHouse Dry Goods. I just love it! I am seeing some beautiful little girl Easter dresses made out of this line. What do you think?

It's hard to believe it will be Easter in 2 weeks! I read that Easter won't be this early again in our lifetime. That's kind of a strange thought isn't it?  It happens to fall on my birthday this year! So, even though I usually make Easter dinner for everyone, I'm kind of hoping to NOT have to this year. We'll see!  The really nice thing is, even though we had to loose an hour of sleep this weekend, I love the fact that it will be light out later. Yeah!!

"Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul?  Why are you crying the blues?  I fix my eyes on God, and soon I'll be praising again.  He puts a smile on my face.  He's my God."    Psalm 42:5 (The Message)

Have a great week everyone!

Some days....!

First of all, let me apolgize for the length of this post, but I tried not to leave out any details. You know we all have those days when things just don't go great..... well I've had plenty of those days myself, but there comes a point when all you can do is just laugh because of the ridiculousness of how wrong things can go. Do you know what I mean? Here is a picture of my front window in my living room and the "never-ending-saga" of the broken window.

P1000131First of all let me tell you how it happened to be broken in the first place. My youngest daughter Haley, is an avid athlete. She throws, catches, bounces, runs, jumps, slides, pretty much any activity you can think of she does it. And most of the time, more than one of these at the same time.

The problem with this is; she likes to try to do these activities in the house! And, from the time she was able to throw a ball, her dad has taught her how to throw and "pitch" things even in the house. Supposedly being careful not to be near the furniture or pictures.

You see we have two very different theories about this. My upbringing says "you never throw things in the house"! That's what I was taught, and I think pretty much a "no brainer". However because we have a big open area in the house and it's climate controlled, to my husband it made perfect sense to practice in the house. Well, not to say "I told you so", but I DID! And here is what happens when you practice your pitching with a rock, in the house!

Now, that's only the beginning of this "SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS."  First of all it took me months to get someone to come out to the house, measure the window and replace the glass. The first 2 people I called just never showed up, and never called me back. Apparently the job wasn't big enough to be bothered with. Anyway, I finally found this company through a friend and the man came out, measured, ordered the glass and came to put it in. The KID he sent to do the job, didn't know what he was doing and ended up damaging the whole frame and cutting himself (getting 7 stitches). The young man was so upset, he left the new window sitting on the floor in my living room along with broken glass, and LEFT. The next day the owner came out, looked at the window and told me he owed me a new window, frame and all. He called the manufacturer and ordered a new one. This took another several weeks to get. Then he and another man came on one of the coldest days in February, took out the old window and then discovered they had sent the WRONG WINDOW! He then had to put the broken window BACK IN, and re-order the window. The next day he came out to take pictures to send to the manufacturer because they don't believe that it is the wrong window.

So, now we wait again...... I'm telling you.... at this point it's just so ridiculous that I have to shake my head and chuckle. I'm not quite sure who's patience is being tested here; mine or the "window guy"!  And believe it or not, it's been months now that it has been broken. Don't you love the "white duck tape look" too? Classy! We are really bringing down the neighborhood. I'm surprised that my neighbors will even speak to me!

Well, hope you are all having a fabulous day! Weather men are predicting 3-6 more inches of snow for us tonight!  YEAH! I know that's what I want, more snow (she says with a hint of sarcasm)!

                         ****Thought for the day****
A little bit of "kid" humor:

A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin, age five, and Ryan, age three. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. "If Jesus were sitting here, He would say 'Let my brother have the first pancake; I can wait.' " Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, "Ryan, you be Jesus!"

Have a great day everyone! God Bless you,
Tammy
